K3 SSB Tx Audio

4Z5TO
I haven't had the time lately to get on the air in the last several months, but over the last couple of days I had a free hour here and there; I've received exceptional audio reports. People have told me my sound and signal are on par with local broadcast stations.

Hope that gives some some doubters a bit of hope if you want to use the K3 for SSB.

Nobody  of us the users has said that the K3 has a bad TX audio, this radio can sound as well as any other radio in the world,in fact it can sound even better if you know how to set properly the TX EQ,the mic and comp gain; as you after been using for more than a year my K3,  I keep receiving all the time excellent reports of my TX audio even I use all the time ESSB and I know lots of users don't like that mode.
I am using the Yamaha CM-500 as mic and if you are interested I can send you some clips to let you hear how I sound with it.Good luck with yours,73

I don't recall writing something negative about the audio. The post was directed at current SSB operators or more accurately, potential SSB operators, i.e. potential buyers that might have concerns about using the K3 for SSB.

There have been on the other hand some mention on this list of the K3 catering primarily to CW ops, hence my comments. One could think of it as a form encouragement and compliment.

Insofar as using the ESSB, never even considered that. Might be fun to play around with that too.

I would appreciate getting the setting that you use for MIC & COMP for your K-3. I have been experimenting but not sure if it is set correctly.

Thanks .......

You can't really go wrong with MIC and COMP setting. Just use the MONITOR
function or the KDVR to listen to your own audio. I always fiddle with these
settings myself but never got any bad audio reports.

Re: K3 SSB Tx Audio

You must absolutely use the MONITOR to help you adjust.

Another thing that helps is working on your voice. You don't need a top 40 radio voice, but you do need to speak clear and concise. The MONITOR will help you in part to this end also. Don't forget to put the K3 in test mode or zero power when trying this out.

In regards to the ESSB, I personally don't think using any amount of compression sounds like a good idea, kind of defeats the purpose of ESSB, no?
