K3; SWL Filters

Ken817821
I wonder if all changes for SWL shouldn't be reserved only for the second receiver.
I want to be sure that a world class transceiver designed for HAM operation does not get screwed up by creeping specs from changes being made to change it into something else.
Look up the history of the German Messerschmit airplane in WW II for an example of what can happen.  The world's best airplane got changed into something that could hardly fly.

Re: K3; SWL Filters

I don't believe it's a zero-sum proposition to design an HF receiver that performs optimally on all bands and modes. Any feature that could possibly be added to the K3 to make it a killer SWL receiver should have no ill effect on it's ham-band performance at all.

The point is, you don't have to get nervous about any SWL enhancements. If you choose not to install a wide filter, or a general coverage BPF, or set the low frequency response to 5 Hz or whatever, it shouldn't make any difference to you as a ham band only user. Besides, I doubt the good folks at Elecraft would do anything that would diminish the amateur band performance just to keep us pesky SWLs happy...

into a hybrid of a ghetto blaster and a 756 Pro III.
