K3 Scanning on 6 meters

Ron Chambers
I can't seem to make the SCAN function work on 6 meters. All other
bands work fine.

Operator error? Or?

No, scanning is deliberately disabled on 6 meters. There is an issue
with FCC approval. As I understand it (someone will correct me if I'm
wrong), a manufacturer of equipment capable of scanning above 30 mHz
must prove that it can't scan the 800 or 900 mHz region used by analog
cellular phones (if there are any!). When Elecraft comes up for air they
will do this and then enable scanning on 6 meters.

It's a shame they don't make note of this anywhere.

Re: K3 Scanning on 6 meters

S Sacco
Bob -

I'm looking at page 37 of my Revision C1 Owners Manual.

I see no reference to scanning being disabled on the 50MHz band.

Re: K3 Scanning on 6 meters

Bob Cunnings NW8L
I see the following in the first para under "Scanning" in rev C1:

"...(Some bands may be excluded from scanning for
regulatory reasons.)"

Yes, I'll grant that it doesn't mention 50 MHz specifically.
