K3 Send and receive data on a terminal program?

Kenneth Christiansen
I have been using K3 0047 and having lots of fun. I have the KUSB from
Elecraft and it works fine with MixW and Ham Radio Delux.
I have Vista on my computer and had to download a copy of HyperTerminal
from the internet. I can not get  any commands to go to the K3 from
HyperTerminal and I can not see any data from the K3 on HyperTerminal. I
got out an old DOS computer with an XTALK clone called MIRROR but I was
not able to get it to send or receive data either. Has anyone else been
able to get this feature to work. If you have can please share settings
for both the K3 and the terminal program that I need to use. I already
tried setting both terminals for 38400, 8 bits, no parity and 1 stop bit
and the K3 is taling to MixW and Ham Radio Delux with these setting.
Thanks for any help.
I used the K3 on the 160 meter SSB net this morning and found I could
work stations that I could not hear with the IC-746PRO. The audio also
sounds much nicer to my ears. I am using 20 for MIC gain and 20 for CMP.
Everyone told me it sounded better than the IC 746PRO so it must sound
good as I have had good luck for 4 years with the IC 746PRO. I also used
it on an AM net on 160 with good results both transmitting and
receiving. I used the same MIC gain 20 and CMP gain 20.

73 for now.

Hey, I remember Mirror! I used it for years.

I'm pretty sure DOS doesn't support USB. So the KUSB
won't work on DOS. You'll need a "real" serial port.
But Hyperterminal running on Vista should work. Are
you selecting the correct COM port in Hyperterminal?

RE: K3 Send and receive data on a terminal program?

Dick Dievendorff
I had similar (lack of) luck with Hyperterm, TeraTerm, and TinyTerm on
Windows Vista with a USB to Serial adapter (I tried several).  So I'm
building a terminal page into the K3 Utility.
