Hi All,
If this has been discussed on the reflector, I missed it. I've been pretty much on the run over the holidays, and haven't really been reading the posts as completely as I should. The last couple of up firmware updates made a significant change to the high side volume level for the sidetone. Previously, you could go up to "60", but now you can only go up to "40". And there is a definite reduction in the maximum level available, to the extent that when using a speaker, it doesn't seem adequate. I don't know why the high end was changed, but hope it can be restored. I've talked to a couple of other K3 owners who noticed this change as well, and we all hope it will go back to the way it was. Just checked mine ... the setting is at 25 and it's "just right"
for me. Adjusting the level to the maximum makes it far too loud ... for me. I'm an old poop, age 70, but I think my hearing's "normal", whatever that is ... (:-)) I suppose I have to ask why was the level lowered? Had it been left alone, more users could find "just right" level. 73! I would like to see the sidetone outputted on the the LINE OUT so
that when I record a QSO, I can get both sides. Having it Menu selectable to avoid having problems with using LINE OUT with digital QSOs would also be a good idea. I haven't found the level to be a problem and I know many females that tell me I can't hear anything. Hi All
I have K3 #168 mounted /M in my 18 wheeler and with all the noise in the cab,and my less than perfect hearing its a struggle for me to hear my sidetone. If improvements could be made to incease volume it would be a great help to me as I'm CW 95% of the time. Thats the only complaint I have with the K3 other than the fact of why did it not come out years out ;-) 73s Gary W4GNS Subject: [Elecraft] K3 Sidetone Volume > Hi All, > > If this has been discussed on the reflector, I missed it. Gary, just a possibility - have you checked the CONFIG:AF GAIN setting?
It can be HI or LO and the default is LO. This does not affect the sidetone level which is independent of the AF gain setting. 73 -- David G4DMP Leeds, England, UK ------ _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Absolutely we need the OLD sidetone volume of 60 !
the sidetone on speaker is far to low with 40 max ! and the higher 60 level gives OLDER ears help with the headphones - lets not throw the BABY out with the BATH WATER !!! Josh N7XM
