[K3] Speaker buzz

Randy Moore
Just completed my third K3/100 build (this one is actually mine!), and
like the other 2, this one had a speaker buzz (not heard through
headphones) at audio frequencies around 300 hz on CW, but this one
seemed worse.  I fixed it by:

1.  Lining the lip and inside of the speaker shield with one layer of 3M
electrical tape.  This removed ~80% of the buzz.
2.  Putting a 1" long piece of same tape over the middle of the top edge
of both sides of the KPA3 module shield.  This put tape between the top
edge of the shield and the top cover of the K3. This removed the
remainder of the buzz, and I now have clean CW tones through the speaker!

73,
Randy, KS4L

Didn't you get the little foam doughnut that sticks to the back side of the speaker?  This is there to do exactly what you are describing.  If not, you should order one from Elecraft.

As far as I know, those are shipped with the 2nd rx option, which I
don't have.
