K3 Sub Rcvr

Chuck N7BV
GD,

Equipment/Software:  K3 w/subRcvr; microHAM microKEYER (orignal) w/K3 cable, N1MM/MMTTY

Would like to use the K3 subRcvr with a second instance of MMTTY to search for other stations while either CQ'ing or leap-frogging ahead during S&P.

Is anyone doing this?  Any help would be appreciated.

Yes - I have a similar equipment setup, and this is almost exactly how I
operated the ARRL RTTY Roundup. I have done the same thing in CW as
well, but it's easier in RTTY. You can CQ on one frequency while
searching for other stations on the other VFO - somewhat inefficiently,
since you can't receive while you are transmitting, but it's still an
improvement over using only one receiver. You can also S&P
simultaneously on both VFOs, e.g. searching from the bottom of the band
upwards on one VFO and from the top of the band downwards on the other
VFO, working stations on either VFO as you find them. It is easy to do
this with both VFOs on the same band; operating with the VFOs on two
different bands gets quite a lot more complicated.

I can give you detailed instructions on how to set up for this mode of
operating, but the majority of the information would be about the N1MM
Logger setup, so perhaps the details might be considered somewhat
off-topic for this reflector. The basic idea is as follows: use a single
sound card with a stereo cable from the K3's Line Out to the sound card
input, configure two separate copies of MMTTY to use the left and right
channels of the sound card respectively and link those two copies of
MMTTY from N1MM Logger's DI1 and DI2 windows, use two FSK ports in the
microHAM router for FSK keying or else a single cable from the sound
card's left channel output to the K3's Line In for AFSK transmitting,
and the rest is mostly housekeeping.

Let me know what parts of the configuration you are unsure about, and
I'd be happy to fill in the details.
