Hi -
> I just finished installing the sub receiver in my K3 # 4359. Set up the filters, sub synth, etc.The subrx book sez (page 44), that if you press & hold the SUB for 2 seconds or more it will go into Diversity mode. That it does. It also sez that the kHz dot on VFO A will flash, to indicate Diversity mode. That it does. But it also sez on page 45 that when this is done, it sets the sub to the same frequency as the main (VFO A). It does NOT - frequency in VFO B stays right where it was. I did find a way to make it work, but I'm wondering if the book is wrong, if I'm not reading it correctly, or if there is a screw-up in the firmware. I did download the most recent non-beta f/w into the K3. > > On my K3 I have to first do the A>B twice to get both VFO's on the same freq, with the same settings, then go into Diversity mode, and finally press the SUB button again for less than 2 seconds to make it "Link". This keeps it in Diversity mode and "Links" the two VFO's on the same frequency. If it worked as the book sez on page 45, it'd be a lot easier. Any suggestions? Jim, When in diversity mode, the VFO B display does not represent the Sub-RX (as it does not when the Sub-RX is turned off). It's done this way because you can operate split while diversity is on - i.e. a TX frequency that is different from the frequency that the two receivers are locked together on. So, basically, ignore VFO B when experimenting with diversity RX. 73, ~iain / N6ML ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

What the book says means that the SubRX is now controlled by VFO A. VFO B
is used for split TX. It does not mean that the readout on VFO B changes to whatever is on VFO A. 73, Guy. Thanks for the several replies I got on this Diversity Mode newbie question. Now I understand, and after reading those replies, took a closer listen - sure enough, the two receivers ARE on the same (VFO A) frequency. I was reading too much into the instructions! And yes, it is obvious now why the two VFO displays aren't in sync until / unless one wants them to be and that is easy enough to do.
