This may have been covered before, but I'd really like the K3 to allow band-specific power settings. Since there's no provision for amplifier ALC, it would be helpful to set the power output on a band-by-band basis. In other words, if an amplifier takes 40Watts drive on 40m but 60 Watts on ten meters, one could adjust the power output on each band once and then have the K3 remember the settings. Solid state amps, especially, often have frequency-dependent gain.

Does CONFIG:PWR SET to the "PER BAND" choice meet your needs?

Jim,
Per Band Power Control has been in the firmware since MCU 1.99/DSP 1.76 (June 4, 2008). If you are using older firmware, you will have to upgrade - you should find a menu entry for CONFIG PWR SET - set the parameter to PER BAND. The K3 does have ALC input provisions, It was positive going ALC which did not work with most amplifiers. There is a mod on the Elecraft website to change that to negative going ALC. Please observe the informational items about the use of ALC, it is NOT intended to be used as a power limiting mechanism, and driving an amplifier into ALC will create undesirable signal compression, distortion and splatter. 73, Don W3FPR 4CX250B wrote: > This may have been covered before, but I'd really like the K3 to allow band-specific power settings. Dick, K6KR It does indeed! I missed that in the config menu. Many thanks, and sorry for wasting the bandwidth.
