K3 Switch Customization Info available in the K3 Programmer's Reference

wayne burdick
Administrator
If you'd like to get a better feeling for the kind of commands you can
embed in a K3 switch macro, please see page 4 of the K3 Programmer's
Reference, available here:

    http://www.elecraft.com/manual/K3_Pgmr's_Ref_Rev_C3.pdf

A number of practical macro examples are shown. Details on how to use
specific commands can be found starting on page 6.

Re: K3 Switch Customization/K3-POD

Why not produce a small mini panel with a VFO knob that plugs into the K3, the KPOD. This POD could possibly also work with the P3.

All the knobs or buttons on this new mini panel should be user configurable..  Maybe these PODS could be configured so that you could daisy chain them?

The Ten Tec Orions tuning pod is a very good  example thats fantastic to use. I like using it  when browsing the internet or when working on my logging program. Another example is the Woodbox Radio TMATE for the Perseus receiver.

Maybe someone could build a microcontrolled thing using something like this 4x4 keypad?

The new switch customisation is terrific - still playing with it - seems
like it is a great way of personalising the way Split works.

What would be *really* good is a way to save and restore settings on the K3
during the execution of a macro.

Would it be possible to create a couple of new commands, eg. PUSH/POP which
would save and restore the key parameters in the radio;  frequency &
bandwidth of VFOs for example. So this would function like an internal get
or set command - ie. data are saved in the K3 stack and not transmitted over
RS232.

What parameters are saved, what stack depth etc. would become part of a "how
long is a piece of string debate" no doubt.

I realise this is a lot to ask :)

This is pretty cool! The installation and use of the new software went
smoothly. I dove into customizing the "Quick Split" macro for my
specialty; CW DXing. Using Wayne's macro as a start, I added the SB1
command to (always) turn on the sub receiver and the BW$0080 to widen
out the sub Rx to 800 Hz to aid in searching for the (sometimes) elusive
QSX frequency of the DX station. I also changed the QSX to +1KHz since
many CW DX guys who start out a session in simplex and then split as
things get too busy for simplex, usually start at +1KHz.

The MACRO:
SWT13;SWT13;FT1;UPB4;RT0;XT0;SB1;BW$0080

Now when the weak DX that is annoying us all by working a simplex pileup
finally says "up 1", a single button press gets you there before most of
the rest! If the split is otherwise, I then only need spin the B VFO
knob. I love it!

Mike

Now for DSP macros so we can turn on the main Rx in both ears while
searching for the QSX in the right only... ;-)

I'm going to add the AF mixer command to the regular firmware soon.
