K3 Synthesizer Stiffener Plate Mod

Edward R Cole
I have not detected birdies in the K3, but have not used it a 28-MHz
so far.  Until I have a VHF transverter I will not be able to examine
this very well, but I will be using 28-MHz as an IF for both 144 and 1296 MHz.

But is the stiffener standard on radios after spring-2010?  My K3 is
#4043.  I can see that additional ground plane surrounding the synth
may reduce susceptibility to birdies internally generated in the K3.

Re: K3 Synthesizer Stiffener Plate Mod

Guy, K2AV
All synth boards are shipping with the stiffener for some time.  To
quickly verify yours, remove the top cover.

See page 6 of http://www.elecraft.com/manual/ELECRAFT%20KSYN3%20Stiffener%20Mod%20Rev%20D.pdf

The stiffener plate is quite obvious in appearance.

Note to Elecraft, the stiffener is STILL not listed on the mods page.
It is only seen in the order page, therefore the serial number onset
of the stiffener in production is not available as it is for other
modifications.
