K3 TX light on

On 11/25/09 I downloaded latest firmware, MCU 03.63 and DSP1 02.46.
While using HRD/DM780 for PSK31 I now notice the TX light stays on at the end of a transmission. The light will not go out and the K3 will not go into receive unless I tap, xmit, atu tune, rx ant, or ant button. When using version 3.44 beta release and same setup all was well. Has something changed in the new firmware that I need to reset or did I do something that would cause this? Could be your choice of settings for CONFIG:PTT-KEY. Maybe it changed when 3.63 was loaded. I have the same setup as you (HRD /DM780) and the same thing happened when I upgraded to 3.63. The transmit light stayed on at the end of PSK transmissions. I fixed it by changing PTT options in DM780 to serial port instead of through HRD. This definitely happened after upgrading to 3.63. I don't know if this is a permanent fix as/ /I am worried about conflicts with HRD rig control as it uses the same port. I had this problem with HRD/DM780 and reported it to Elecraft several weeks ago while doing a field test. No one could reproduce it. Here's how I eventually resolved the problem: 1) VOX is ON, my normal setting for all modes. 2) I was using HRD to communicate from DM780 to the K3 (see DM780->Program Options->PTT). 3) I changed the selection to "None", i.e. "via soundcard PTT or radio VOX". With this setting the K3 now returns to receive after a DM780 transmission. I am convinced something changed between FW 3.44 and 3.47 that causes HRD communication to the K3 in this particular command sequence to fail. In my case the failure rate was around 50%. With VOX OFF communications works with 3.47 onward, but since I normally leave VOX on for all modes, I didn't want to have to remember to change it to use Data A modes. Please let me know if this resolution works for you. If so, I'd like to reopen the issue Elecraft. Chuck, AE4CW

Please carefully check the configurations in HRD, DM780 and the K3. Assume they all changed to something you didn't want, and verify they are all exactly as you really want them. There have been changes in the K3 firmware, changes in HRD, and changes in DM780 in the past few months. Occasionally, upgrading the K3 firmware has apparently resulted in unexpected configuration changes in some isolated cases. Rather than go back to older firmware, just scroll through all the OCNFIG settings and be sure they are what you want, and that they do what you expect.
