K3 Transverter band decoder interface

Flexradio claim the Flex1500 is one of the best radios for driving transverters. Unfortunately this is let down by the receiver which is not very good compared to K3, and latency issues in CW. The best radio to use if by far the K3 but it lacks something.

I am hoping to build a K3 transverter interface that provides control signals and switches the IF for several microwave transverters. That needs a band select signal from the K3. have more than 3 bands so the KRC2 I have can't do this because the control software is out of sync with the firmware and after 3 years, I think it is very unlikely to ever be updated. A pity as it is a great interface otherwise.

Is there another way? Ideally based on decoding Auxbus or even better picking up hardware signals like the band decoder outputs. I am not happy using RS232 (G4FRE does exactly this) for this because the power on state is unknown. Auxbus itself is proprietary, otherwise I would just listen to it with a microcontroller. Perhaps the signal from the XV50/144/222/432 can be taken from the switches or maybe like in the K2, there are lines on the main board that can be tapped.
