Because may of us have antenna systems that require a tuner at (or near) the
antenna rather than in the shack! Prime example is a non-resonant doublet
fed with ladder line. Very efficient and low loss, but like to have the
tuner outside and transition from the tuner to coax into the shack. I also
use a base loaded inverted L on 160 that requires an external tuner.
Hopefully Elecraft will come up with a remote tuner after the initial K3
rush is over.

tuner ordered with my K3 for use with coax fed antennas. But still would
very much like to see a remote automatic Elecraft tuner, ideally with a
balanced topology as an option.
