Hi guys,
before updating to FW 4.51 last week I wanted to save my current K3 configuration using the K3 Utility but could not succeed. :-( As I saw my last "K3 backup" was over a year old and pre FW 4.42 to which I updated back then for K144RFLK support. So saving K3 configuration did not work with FW 4.42 and also not with FW 4.51 (so you see I did the FW update anyway ;-)). Serial communication with the K3 works flawlessly, K3 ist recognized by Utility and several other software (loggers, etc.). I could do the FW update without problems so I rule out the serial communication as the cause. When trying to save the config the progress bar either does not start to move or it moves until about half-way and then stops. In both cases I get (the same) error message that it was not possible to read K3 EEPROM and saving config failed after a certain time-out period. Besides this error the K3 itself works flawlessly, all settings are stored and recalled correctly when switching bands or the K3 itself on/off including menu settings so I suppose the EEPROM itself must work correctly, too. Any idea what might be the cause and how to resolve it? Did not try an EEINIT yet because I do not want to setup all menu items by hand again as I would not have an up-to-date configuration backup. :-( Thanks & 73, Olli - DH8BQA K3 #4546 KPA500 #431 KX3 #??? Olli you didn't say if you were using the latest K3 Utility version 1.12.3.28. I just tried a Save Config with my system and had no problems.
If you have the latest version you may need to wait until K6KR or someone from Elecraft wakes up! :-) 73, Bill W4ZV |
Olli, same here, no issues. Save K3 Configuration worked fine this morning.
Using 1.12.3.28. 73 de KE4WY Jim _________________________________________________________________________ -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Bill W4ZV Sent: Tuesday, June 05, 2012 6:18 AM To: [hidden email] Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3 Utility: Problems saving K3 configuration Olli you didn't say if you were using the latest K3 Utility version 1.12.3.28. Hi Bill,
sorry I didn't mention it: Yes, using the latest K3 Utility, downloaded and installed before upgrading to 4.51. Let's see if any other suggestions. Olli,
If you have not yet done so, shut everything down, re-boot the computer and try again. Be certain you are saving the configuration file to an area where you have permissions to save. 73, Don W3FPR On 6/5/2012 8:45 AM, Oliver Dröse wrote: > Hi Bill, > > sorry I didn't mention it: Yes, using the latest K3 Utility, downloaded and > installed before upgrading to 4.51. Thanks Don! All that tried already, should have mentioned it, too, sorry.
Dick, K6KR, already contected me and suggest the only way to be really sure there's no hardware problem (i.e. some defective cells in the EEPROM chip) is to do an EEINIT. Will do that next week when back from "radio holiday" and not needing the radio daily as it is right now. 73, Olli - DH8BQA ----- Original Message ----- From: "Don Wilhelm" <[hidden email]> To: "Oliver Dröse" <[hidden email]> Cc: <[hidden email]> Sent: Tuesday, June 05, 2012 3:16 PM Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3 Utility: Problems saving K3 configuration > Olli, > > If you have not yet done so, shut everything down, re-boot the computer > and try again. Just to let you guys know what the outcome was. EEINIT did not change that behaviour, still cannot do backups of the current K3 config, error remains the same. Opposedly restoring an old saved config works just fine so the problem definitely is only one-way. Discussed that with Elecraft support, too, but they neither had any other idea than a cell in the EEPROM might be defective and I should exchange the front panel unit. As the radio is out of warranty and otherwise works just perfectly well I will just skip spending 400 $ for a new front panel unit for the moment and use it as it is. Keeping fingers crossed it will last a few more years.
