The competition will be good but no large company is going to have a forum
with the design engineers and owners corresponding with users. I bet we will
not see the ongoing development from Yaseu progressing at anything like the
rate
of the K3
The K3 is well regarded in EI land partially because there is one
individual, Brendan who has championed this radio in EI. The ability to order
the basic kit for $1400 is a huge plus and one can decide which options to add
as and when needed. I doubt the price could be matched by any of the current
JA manufacturers unless they are about to cut current prices. Not having a
dealer network actually has some advantages. If the radio goes faulty there
is
of course the possibility of sending back one module and not the entire radio.
Still I accept that the idea of ordering a kit from six thousand miles away
does
not appeal to all.
So for now I treasure the K3, this forum and the development process. We
Elecrafters live in a good world.
