K3 VOX question

Paul Fletcher
Hi all,

Will the K3 DSP software include a delay in the transmit audio chain to
prevent the "missing first syllable" issue that is common with other VOX
systems?

Apologies if this has been answered but I looked in the FAQ and previous
posts and couldn't find it.

Regards,
Paul M1PAF

That is our intent.

One rig that uses a fixed audio delay effectively to avoid the "missing
first syllable" problem is the Kenwood TS-870. But an unintended
consequence of the design is that the transmit audio monitor is, at
least for some users, difficult or impossible to listen to. I prefer to
monitor my audio to be able to quickly detect problems, but find I have
to turn off the monitor on an 870.

If an audio delay is used in the K3, I suggest that it should be
possible to adjust or at least disable it as a  configuration option.

I don't think there is a need for the delay to be incorporated in the
monitor audio - it should be possible to either put the delay after the take
off for the monitor or have a separate path though the DSP for the VOX
detection. Understand and agree with your findings though, I have an
SDR-1000 and the latency in the monitor makes it impossible to use with
headphones.

Thank you for the suggestion.  We have been working hard to ensure the
K3 Rx-to-Tx turnaround time is very fast, and to minimize delays in the
system.
