(K3) W0O AND THE APF

KENT TRIMBLE
Our thanks to the many Elecrafters who sought out the Mid-MO ARC
Halloween Special Event from Frankenstein, Missouri, this weekend.  The
weather was gorgeous, the fields were harvested, the colors were
beautiful., and the witches were flying.

I can emphatically say that without the new Audio Peaking Filter (still
in alpha test) a lot of stations would not have made it into our log.

I can also emphatically say that an awful lot of CW operators do NOT
know how to zero-beat, but that's another issue.

However, it IS a relevant issue with the APF.  I personally vote for
minimal variables.  By the time you get a down-in-the-mud AND
off-frequency station inside your passband (much less centered), you
want to slap the APF on him with minimum fuss.  The FT-1000D kept it
simple and in this instance, in my opinion, less is more.

Again, thanks for the fun, guys.

73,

Kent  K9ZTV
Special Event Chairman
