K3 Wiki Site

dhhdeh
Does anyone know what happened to the K3 Wiki Page?

I got the following message when trying to access
it today.
*
"The requested URL /mediawiki/index.php/Main_Page
was not found on this server.*"

I hope that it has just moved as it contained a
lot of good Elecraft Info.

Thanks,

73 de N1LQ-Dave

Re: K3 Wiki Site

Julian, G4ILO
It looks as if Thom K3HRN who runs zerobeat.net has been having a clearout. The Zerobeat Elecraft forum has also gone, which is no great loss as it was never used, indeed I suggested to him some time ago that he may as well kill it.

The wiki was edited by Don Rasmussen WB8YQJ who used to post on here regularly but hasn't posted since May 18. Possibly Don sold his K3 and was no longer interested, but it's a shame that it was pulled without giving anyone any notice as even if Thom no longer wished to host it, someone else may have volunteered to take it on.

Re: K3 Wiki Site

I used to use the wiki quite a lot but have to admit not recently.
There was some good stuff on it and I thought it had great potential. I
don't know anything about wiki spam but I suppose it could be a time
consuming problem.

I e-mailed Thom K3HRN just last week and got the following reply:

I turned it off.....too much spam, and absolutely no support from
Elecraft and/or the Elecraft users.  BTW, you are the
first person who has emailed me about it no longer being active.

When I first put the forum and the wiki online I asked for help, and
received it,

As time went on it was painfully obvious that there was was a lack of
interest and support
as indicated in my statement above.

As the level of spam increased, it took more time to maintain the
forum and the wiki....and quite frankly it
was not worth the effort. We did not give notice, as there was no
support and little expressed interest
from the outset

Just as an aside, I maintain a web site, forum and mailing list for
R.L. Drake users.....the difference in participation,
help and gratitude is like day and night.

It was an interesting experiment....and like many things, it did not
survive in the market place.

Thom k3hrn

Re: K3 Wiki Site

David Christ
I wonder if this list with all the helpful people and the
participation from Elecraft affected the interest in the wiki.  The
Drake people don't have that.

Re: K3 Wiki Site

M0XDF
In reply to this post by Thom LaCosta-2
Well, I wish I'd known, since I found the site helpful from time to time, but as my knowledge of the K3 grew, I found less need of the Wiki. However, it was good to know it was there for when I might want to look at it, especially some of the reference material.

I completely understand why you would want to drop it Thom, but perhaps if you'd indicated your intention to do so, someone else would have stepped up to take it on?

Do you still have all the content archived away somewhere?

I always found it very useful and it's on my iPhone as reference material when I'm out /p.
Perhaps you can pass it over to a volunteer Thom I'm sure a lot of people would host it, let's not let it die out!!!

The Elecraft Owner Database is quite useful but maybe some people on
here do not know about it.
http://zerobeat.net/qrp/elowners.html
There are thousands of records on there although it is a bit out of date
in some places. It shows M0XDF still waiting for his KRX3, KDVR3 &
KFL3B-FM, but it's accurate in that it says his XV144 with XVOVN is
"Waiting-Built" ;-)

Maybe this is another case of "use it or lose it".  I don't see any P3s
listed on there.

I forgot about it, have just updated it.

Would like to add the P3, but it's not a model option yet.

Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones. -Marcus Aurelius, philosopher and writer (121-180)

Isn't it amazing,,,,,after all our hard work that was ignored and
unthanked...now I'm supposed to give it to someone else?

The time for folks to participate was when we had it up and running.

No thanks guys.....I've had my fill of the "Mouth full of gimmee and
a hand full of take" that's been displayed by both
Elecraft and the K3 community.

The wiki and the forum for Elecraft users was a classic example of
"No good deed goes unpunished".

Hmmm...seems like I am not the only one who didn't know it even existed so I
guess you can put me in with the group who didn't support the wiki.

Then again I don't use any Wiki

But I can take that without bad feelings.
