Dear Gang:
I am using my K3/XV-144 to drive a cantankerous, shock-hazard Henry 2002A amplifier on 2m. In its current state, the 2002A can take only 11 watts drive. To get this out of the XV-144, I have to set the K3 to XV1 PWR L.06 At this power level (.06 mw) the PWR knob on the K3 will not adjust the output. If I set XV1 PWR L 1.0 (1 MW), the K3 pwr knob can be used to vary the K3 drive from .1 to 1.0 MW. However, turned all the way down to .1 mw still gives me 17 watts out of the XV-144 on my Bird 43 into a dummy load. The XV-144 is jumpered for 1MW operation. I believe what I need to do is to readjust R22 for more attenuation from the K3 so that .1MW will give me something less than 10 watts out from the XV-144. Is this correct? Or have I missed something? On a related topic, the 2002A has a problem that is driving me nuts. If there is anyone in the South SF Bay Area who is an expert in these matters, I'm willing to pay for help to get this amp fixed. I have already driven it down to Henry in LA who charged me $$$ and didn't fix it. Contact me OFF LIST if you can help. I STILL LOVE MY K3, K2, KX1, K1, XV-144, AF1, W-1, DL-1, XG2, NGEN...you get the picture. 73, Eric WD6DBM ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Hi Eric,
You have got it figured out. I would set the K3 to a little less than 1mw and then adjust R22 on the transverter for your desired output. That should give you plenty of range on the K3 power control for fine adjustment. 73, Bob, N6CM On Sun, Oct 4, 2009 at 6:55 PM, eric norris <[hidden email]> wrote: > Dear Gang: > > I am using my K3/XV-144 to drive a cantankerous, shock-hazard Henry 2002A > amplifier on 2m.
