Yes, Yaesu was bought by Motorola in 2008
(according to company web page http://www.vxstd.com/jp/profile.html

Kenwood is part of the JVC-Kenwood group (if I may call it so..)

I think of it as more of a Ferrari. Top performance but to get the best you need to tweak it.

Not as good at pulling the chicks though. I imagine. Perhaps red paint should be an option.
