K3 and AL-811H

bobgarceau
I just decided to run the K3 on CW for the CQWW CW with the AL-811H amp.

I have used the K3 with amp on ssb and rtty. No apparent problems.

First time on CW, though.

I notice that relay on the amp doesn't sound the same as when I was using
the amp with the MP.right at the 8ms setting.

Increased the TX dly setting to 15 ms and I don't get the constant clicking
but the relay does kick on and the CW appears to be transmitted.

As an aside, I'm using the MKII.

I had read somewhere that you can adjust the delay with the MKII.

You should not need to adjust the delay.  Connect Key Out from the
K3 to MK II PTT In and MK II PA PTT to the AL-811 PTT in jack.

With this connection, the AL-811 PTT will be activated by the Winkey
in MK II BEFORE CW is sent to the K3 (the amount of the lead is set
by the PTT Lead parameter on Router's PTT tab).  The length to the
PA PTT tail (time the amplifier is held after PTT/CW to the K3) is
set by the PA PTT Tail value in the PTT tab.

The AL-811 is not capable of QSK so there is no reason to set the
MK II CW PTT to QSK or semi break-in.
