Hi all
just read Eham review of Ic7700 in comparison with K3. I am just wondering what the group thinks. And some must own both rigs ?? moe MM0MRM K2 # 5158 _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I read them. Over the past several years agreed with some, disagreed with
some when owning the rig reviewed. Never pay much attention when the call isn't given, some write great reviews when selling a rig, some won't write a bad review especially when paying out a sizeable amount of money for a new rig. Several years ago (over 20) a newsletter publisher highly regarded by many really talked up a new Kenwood rig. I bought one and I quickly noticed it was one of the noisiest rigs I ever owned, drifted, and was very non selective. I could hear stations several KC's up or down the band. I quickly dumped it. Not to say all Kenwoods are bad rigs. Always be very cautious if it's touted as the best thing since sliced bread but still have an open mind. By the way, I own Icoms and also have the K-3. I like my K-3. Just a couple of items I would like to see I understand are being worked on for future firmware updates. I think we are close. Oh! And I have been looking at the 7700 also. 73 de KE4WY Jim -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of akm Sent: Monday, April 07, 2008 11:17 AM To: [hidden email] Subject: [Elecraft] K3 and Icom 7700 Hi all just read Eham review of Ic7700 in comparison with K3. Yup. The thing with the eham reviews is that you have to assess what the reviewing ham is trying to do with the rig. If he is a casual ragchewer, he is not going to be testing and evaluating the rig the same way a high-end contester will. Think of it as the difference between driving to the grocery store and church at 30 MPH, versus driving a Formula One Gand Prix course at 180 MPH. A car designed for either kind of driving will feel unsatisfactory to the driver who has the "wrong" car for his application. I try to find reviews from guys who seem to be doing the same kinds of things I'm doing. If the type of operation done isn't even mentioned in the review, it's basically useless. "Super rig, have had it for three weeks and can't find anything to complain about. 5.0!" is simply noise, somebody expressing their emotional state. No law against it, nice that he's happy, but not otherwise meaningful. Bill W5WVO Several years ago (over 20) a > newsletter publisher highly regarded by many really talked up a new > Kenwood rig. Moe, I am glad that Mr. RFEXPERT has found a rig he is happy with... I am happy with my choice. 73, Henry - K4TMC K3 #98 ************** Planning your summer road trip? Check out AOL Travel Guides.
