K3 and Panadapter

Jean-Claude Abauzit-2
Very good job with the K3 FAQ.

Regarding the use of a Softrock as panadapter you should also mention
that not only it will provide the panadapter function but also a
second receiver tunable around the receive frequency of the K3. For
example with a sound card sampling at 196 kHz this second receiver
would allow reception at +/-96 kHz of the K3 receiving frequency with
all the bells and whistles of a SDR.

Regarding the future Elecraft pandapter:
Right now the K3 can be used on RTTY and PSK with a tiny scrolable
display (VFO-B). The panadapter will  have a big screen, why not make
use of it for the digital modes? May be have a keybord connector. It
could also make use of a mouse connector: Point and click on the
spectrum display to tune a signal.

I just suscribed to the reflector when I heard about the K3, I
decided not to receive individual e-mail. I know how to post but have
no idea on how to reply to a post, how do I do that?

Re: K3 and Panadapter

Seriously, I like the idea of the Softrock as a panadapter.  But I'm
running out of space and audio channels even in the shack, and when
traveling it gets much worse, since then even USB ports get really
messy.  And that can mean installing hardware and software on a loaner
computer, when you have no or poor internet access.  At that point, a
standalone box with two or three connection only to the radio begins
to look very attractive.

Also, the volume of information to process on the Softrock list (which
seems to be the only source of information) means that keeping up when I'm
at home is a problem, and impossible when traveling.
