Concerning using the K3 with an unmodified SB220.
Yes there is a protection diode in the K3, but consider this;
Would you put a >1000 volt spike into the key jack of a radio that cost you >$2000.
I would rather eliminate the spike be installing a very cheap 1N4007 or equivalent diode acrossed the SB 220 relay coil instead of putting the strain on my K3 components.
Think about it.
