Has anybody interfaced a StepIR and/or Icom PW-1 with a K3?
I have a friend who asked me about it and might be interested in the new Icom coming out. I am trying to steer him in this direction which I believe with all the K3 options, the K3 will still be lower in price than the new Icom and be a better radio. Any info would be appreciated. 73 Tom / k1tl... _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I have done this.
I use a micro Keyer II that has a CI-V port that emulates an Icom transceiver to control the PW-1. The micro Keyer II connects to the K3 and the CI-V jack on the micro Keyer II connects to the Steppir and PW-1 using a Y cable. With the new Steppir cable from Microham, the PW-1 would still connect to the CI-V jack but the Steppir would connect to the iLink jack on the micro Keyer II. In this configuration, the micro Keyer II only sends the transmit frequency to the Steppir controller (prevents the wide split problem), in PTT mode the micro Keyer II inhibits transmit when the Steppir motors are running and in VOX mode the micro Keyer II leaves the PW-1 in standby when the Steppir motors are running. If you do not need a soundcard interface, the alternative is the microHAM Station Master. Station Master provides "Band Decoder" functions plus the "foreign amplifier" and SteppIR interface capabilities. 73, ...
