I use the Toyko Hy-Power 1.2KFX without ALC and my QRP K3. I can't overdrive the amplifier and it works just great. My HL1.2 KFX is modified. I removed the input attenuator from the HL1.2KFX so my 12 watts gives me 600 watts typical. Remember, ALC feedback takes time, so the amplifier chain overshoots for a few milliseconds before turning down the drive. This can cause splatter as well as overstressing the amplifier devices. These Toyko Hy-Power amplifiers are well protected as are many from other manufacturers as well, but ALL transistor amplifiers can't take transients like tube type amplifiers. I used to design transistor amplifiers for Rockwell Collins for many years. I learned. Just my 2 cents worth.
