K3 and WriteLog

Fred Atchley
If you are a WriteLog user you may want to check out their new webpage look.
WriteLog has had some succession problems in coming up with the right people
to take over from the old guard. Hopefully they have succeeded and will once
again be able to grow the product. I proposed the upgrade below to WriteLog
and Steve responded.

of the new SDR oriented rigs.

Re: K3 and WriteLog

Mike K2MK
Hi Fred,

I must have been the other person. I had written to Steve a few days ago about being able to send a CW SPOT command (SW42) from a keyboard function key like F12.  I think it would be great if WriteLog had the ability to serially send user configurable commands to the K3.

K3 users of WriteLog should write to Steve if they could benefit from this ability.

73,
Mike K2MK

Re: K3 and WriteLog

Joe Subich, W4TV-4

There are some interesting new capabilities in the works for
WriteLog.  I am not at liberty to discuss them here but I
believe when released those capabilities will answer the need
for supporting custom commands (K3 Macros) as well as extending
existing commands to the WriteLog interface.

Re: K3 and WriteLog

Jim Brown-10
When I got back on the air in 2003 after a long absence, it was at Field Day
and our club used WriteLog. I've always been a contester at heart, so I
bought it and used it for about four years. Then my new Field Day group here
in CA decided they were using the N1MM Logger, so I downloaded it and started
using it so I would be proficient on Field Day.

It wasn't long before I liked N1MM a lot more than WriteLog, and for about
three years, it's been my primary contest logging software. That decision was
cast in concrete a year or so ago when I put a new computer in my ham shack
and tried to install WriteLog on it for guest operators. WriteLog wouldn't
install, because it was more than a year since I had purchased an upgrade.
Goodbye WriteLog.

The primary reasons I like N1MM better are operating features that give me a
competitive advantage. It also helps that it's free. :)

73, Jim K9YC

Hmmm.  That doesn't sound right. You should have been able to
install the full version that you purchased, plus any updates
with an issue date up to one year later than your purchase date.
I just installed WL on a new laptop, and I haven't purchased an
upgrade in several years.
