K3 at VHF

WD6DBM
I'm sure you're all sick of my gushing over just HOW MUCH I love my K3 (and K2, K1, and KX1) but if you have any doubts over what the K3 can do at VHF read on for this week's episode:

1)  During the ARRL EME contest using the K3 and XV-144 I was operating (though not entering due to protest of rule change) S&P when I came across W6YX booming in at S9 +40db calling KB8RQ on 144.127 MHz using WSJT.  I moved just 3KHz away, and the signal was virtually GONE.  Keep in mind in this mode I run at 4KHz RX bandwidth using a 6KHz roofing filter.  AMAZING!  With the previous radios I have used for EME the only solution for another local EME station was to call CQ on the same sequence he was working or turn off the radio and give up.

When I could no longer work off the moon I slid down to 160 meters and worked a little CW in the contest using that same great K3 selectivity....then

2) Tonight working meteor scatter on 6m I was disappointed to find some loud, weird, irregularly spaced impulse noise that was just about wiping me out.  But a little fiddling with the K3's noise blanker and voila!  Noise Be Gone!  I fired up the SB-226 and worked a few stations off Geminids meteor trails.

When that adventure was over I settled down to my usual QRS ragchew on 40m CW soothed by the TOTAL LACK of clattering relays as I enjoyed the K3's smooove QSK.  I have to keep checking my pulse to make sure i have not DIED AND GONE TO HAM HEAVEN WHERE YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU WANT WITH THE RIG OF YOUR DREAMS!

I now return you to your regular Elecraft reflector traffic.

73,  Eric WD6DBM, still smiling after 330+ days of K3 revelation.
