Subject: audio problems?

Hello all, CW is working fine with K3 #716 but trying SSB there seems to be
a problem possibly related to the headset/boom mic I had been using with
other radios.  If I turn the monitor up enough to hear anything in the
headsets I am getting a huge feedback through the radios speaker.  This
happens whether using PTT or VOX so I don't know if the problem is operator
error, set-up error (most likely) or headset/mic problem.  Just wondering if
others have had this problem and what the solution is.  Perhaps the Proset
K3 would be the best solution.  Another thing is that the audio gain control
has no effect on phone level when connected to the rear panel phone jack and
wondered if this is normal.  TIA, de gary, kd9sv

You didn't say which brand of headset you are using.

I use a Heil Proset Plus here and had the same problem until I realized I was
leaving the speaker on when using SSB and listening to the monitor at the same
time.  The feedback was due to the speaker audio getting back into the mic.

If you are not doing that, then it sounds like there is not enough audio
isolation between the head phones and the mic, or you listen to the headphones
at a high audio which is getting back into the mic.

If the audio gain has no effect on the phone audio level, then you are probably
plugged into the line out jack on the back instead of the phone jack.

Just guessing...
