First upgrade to the latest version of K3 Utility.
Make certain the K3 is powered on - K3 Utility should display your currently loaded firmware versions. Download the latest versions of firmware from Elecraft. Use a real serial port if you are able. Remove the cable and reinstall it. Maybe it's not well connected. Retry the
load a few times. If it persists, get a different cable.
