KR2Q:
>Just as lots of folks needed a tutorial on what a roofing is (and
isn't), I'm sure there are at least an equal number (now including me)
that need an introductory course on Pan displays (specifically, what
we forecast Elecraft might do versus what Softrock can already do -
and not do).
For a primer, see VE3NEA's "Rocky" website.
http://www.dxatlas.com/rocky/Alex wrote Rocky specifically for the Softrock 40. You can
get an idea of what it can do by looking at the displays.
His hardware is described under System Requirements. The
~$150 list price Delta 44 or $300 list Edirol 66 is not
required. It depends on what dynamic range and bandwidth
span you want in the display. The Delta 44 gives 96 kHz
and about 99 dB dynamic range. The Edirol 66 gives 192 kHz
and a few dB more DR. But if you can live with less, even
the sound card in your computer's motherboard *may* work.
Also here's the Z90/91 Panadapter by Jack K8ZOA:
http://www.cliftonlaboratories.com/Z90.htmJack is on this list and can probably better summarize
what the Z90 will do versus Rocky and others.
