K3 dsp board upgrade for early radio

nick thomas
Hi Gents,

I have an early K3 - serial # around 400. Do I need to swap the entire
DSP board out for a Rev D board or is the little mod kit *"K3DSPLPF"
*that is sold for $40 going to do it for me?

Cheers,

Nick NT1A

Nick,

The little K3DSPLPF will take care of the high frequency part of the
spectrum just the same as the DSP Board swap, BUT, it will not extend
the low frequency response.

So, the answer depends on what you want to accomplish - if you want both
the high and low frequency changes in your K3, then the DSP Board swap
is the easiest way to accomplish that.

K3 dsp board upgrade for early radio

Johnny Siu
Hello Nick,

As you will take the trouble to open up the K3 front panel, I suggest you swap the entire DSP board for a peaceful mind.

Luckily, my hearing is still very good up to 15Khz.  To me, it is day and night difference after the swap.  Judging from your serial no, there are quite a number of modification applicable to your K3.  All these modifications are not difficult to be installed even for a non-radio man like myself.

TNX & 73,

Johnny VR2XMC

Thank you so much Don. Your answer clarified everything about this
upgrade for me. I will swap out the entire board.
