K3 filter gain

Kjeld Holm
Dear Elecraft

The K3 manual has some recommended values for filter gain. I guess that
using higher values than recommended will result in degraded performance
regarding intermodulation and 3rd order intercept point. Am I right?

My reason for considering higher values is of course to hear weaker signals.

Re: K3 filter gain

Hello Kjeld!

Increasing the filter gain value does not make the K3
receiver more sensitive, nor does it compromise dynamic
range.

The purpose of allowing adjustment of the filter gain
parameter for each installed roofing filter is to
*balance* the signal level prior to the AGC detector.
Then, if you change roofing filters as you adjust
selectivity, the audio level or S Meter reading won't
suddenly change.
