K3 filter setup anomaly

Martin Sole-2
Probably me as I'm somewhat green with the K3. I've spent a good few hours
playing with one and been inside to add a DVR and for a nose around but am
now confused by something I thought should be straightforward.

I just added a DVR to a friend's K3 and having confirmed that as working
have added the 6kHz filter. As per the documentation I removed the four
existing filters and shuffled them to the left one position fitting the 6kHz
filter in the rightmost FL1 position. This on the main RX board not the sub
receiver. I've been through the setup instructions in the manual but when
FL1 appears in the display (whenever the width control goes above 2.8kHz the
receiver audio drops to essentially the background receiver noise and there
is no S meter reading. Might this be a bad filter or do such things not
occur?

I am also a little confused with the filtering. I own an Orion 1 so excuse
if this seems a little strange but I have multiple roofing filters from
250Hz up to 20kHz and can have these either track with the BW control or
fixed, eg the first roofer set at 6kHz and the BW controlling only the DSP
bandwidth. I sometimes prefer the sound of a wider first IF filter. It seems
I cannot do that with the K3 other than to turn off the unwanted filters in
the config menu. Am I right? Receiver BW control seems to stop at 4kHz on
SSB and 5kHz on AM, Is that correct or does this point to the problem with
the filter mentioned previously?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Martin, HS0ZED

Did you make sure that you also adjusted the Config menu for the filter positions and respective widths?  You can't just put the filter in without telling the rig what you have just done. If you don't adjust that, ALL of your other filters will now be wrong as well.

Re: K3 filter setup anomaly

Hi,

Yes I set the filters up in the config menu to reflect the bandwidths in the
FL1 to FL5 positions after the change.
