Just checking, I see there is a later release of firmware available (1.58),
but didn't see any notification of that on the reflector. At one time, or more accurately, for one release, there was an email to a specific K3 owners distribution list. (It was a distribution and notification list, from Elecraft only, not a list for discussion.) Most other times, Eric made an announcement on this list. There is an option in the downloader software to check every 6 hours. I don't think that is practical for everyone, but I think that the owner's list notification should be reinstated. Mailing to the entire Elecraft list is fine, but it interrupts discussions of the latest serial numbers delivered. _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Could I request that a very short notification to the Elecraft reflector
(this one) be made when K3 firmware is updated, please. Just a short note like "Today we released updated firmware for the K3" would be sufficient. All K3 owners will know to use their update tool to get it (or know were to look on web) and any info about the upgrade should be in the release notes (please Elecraft, do ensure info about the upgrade is well documented in the notes). So there should be no need for a long note about the update disturbing non K3 owners. Or you can use the auto-check facility which is a part of the K3

But as we were saying, running the auto-check involves having the program
running all the time, and I have about 100 processes running on my Mac as it is. A short note just means we don't have to check all the time. Autocheck? There ARE still some who are "dial-up" only. (:-))

While I think it is admirable to maintain a separate mailing list for K3 owners, I think it is highly possible for some folks to slip through the crack--at least temporarily. All of us should be monitoring the reflector, and I think it is much more efficient to give just a short notice here. If you want to do both, that's fine too. Of course, we can also keep checking the firware section on the website, but that involves a lot of trips there with no results. Besides, just because you don't have your K3 yet doesn't mean you aren't interesting in knowing what's happening with the firmware. I would think the announcement, along with a brief description of its content, would be not only appropriate, but appreciated by most folks on the list. If not, there is always the delete key. Wayne was supposed to post it yesterday to the list. He was tied up on
other issues and missed this. I just reminded him :-) 73, Eric David Ferrington, M0XDF wrote: > Could I request that a very short notification to the Elecraft reflector > (this one) be made when K3 firmware is updated, please. > > Just a short note like > > "Today we released updated firmware for the K3" > > _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
