Hello,
Does anyone have any experience with this headset and mic for sale on Ebay? 260174855278 The price is right, but don't know if it is any good. The Heil setup, I'm sure will do the job. However I would like to look at other options. The only mics in my shack are Drake 7077 for a TR-7 and a couple of Astatic mics a D-104 and a 10-D. They work great on tube Collins gear, but I'm not too sure how it will act on a K3. Any thoughts on the Astatic mics? I'm coming out of the stone age in a way with a K3 when it gets here. All of my test equipment is a generation or two newer tham the gear I repair. The K3 will be my only rig less then 30 plus years old. It will be fun to play with. So if I order the Heil headset for my mic w/ the K3 what do I need to buy to
have a PTT button? I'm assuming that there are footswitches for this but not sure what the best bang for the buck type stuff would be. What jack does this plug into? My hope is that I can use the Elecraft/Heil headset and have a computer interface and a keyer and possibly transverter without a cable plugged into the front. Seem possible? _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. I cannot comment much on the microphone situation except to say that the
old crystal mics (Astatic and D-104) are high impedance and will need some type of hi-Z to lo-Z conversion to work with modern transceivers (K3 included). As for test equipment for the K3, little is needed - a good 50 ohm dummy load is a requirement for any hamshack, and you might want to consider having a DMM around and an RF probe. The K3 itself does not *require* any test equipment other than that. Look at page 6 of the K3 Kit Assembly manual for the entire list of tools that may be needed. The RF probe and a good 50 ohm resistive dummy load can serve instead of the RF Power meter, and the Elecraft XG1 or XG2 is a good source of the 50 uV signals that are needed for the S-meter calibration. 73, Don W3FPR DW Holtman wrote: > Hello, > > Does anyone have any experience with this headset and mic for sale on Ebay? > > 260174855278 > > The price is right, but don't know if it is any good. Not sure if you order from Heil if you get an adapter with it, but the
Elecraft ProSet-K2 comes with an adapter to go in front Mic connector and it has a 1/4" jack for PTT. Note also that the Elecraft ProSet-K2 has an Electret mic (it's effectively the Proset iC), whereas the Prosets from Heil have HC4 or HC5 elements. Heil sell a foot switch and a hand switch - I have both and wasn't sure which I preferred. You could make one too if you wished. There is also a PTT RCA connector on the rear panel, so you don't need to use the front Mic connector. BUT, I now have the Proset connected to the rear 3.5mm jacks for Phones and Mic and use VOX, which is so good on the K3, no discernable delay in the VOX. I will probably keep the PTT etc. when I run JOTA, I need to keep control of the PTT, so using a Heil HM-10 on a boom with a PTT switch works well. Hash: SHA1 Brett, The basic Heil Proset headset comes with a pair of 1/8th inch jacks. I have an adapter cable for my K2 which includes a 1/4 inch jack to plug in a PTT switch. You can roll your own PTT switch or buy the Heil hand switch. 73 Brett Howard wrote: | So if I order the Heil headset for my mic w/ the K3 what do I need to buy to | have a PTT button?
