My K3 has the revised DSP. In many cases I was able to copy very weak stations clearly in heavy QRM. In some not. It seems that reception of weak stations is now more limited by signal quality of those stations than by K3's audio distortions.
Cranking out PROC to 30 helped with strength and brought no complains.
Voice memories ("CQ Contest ...", "59 GA" "NO9E", and "73") with controls via N1MM initially made operations very convoluted (until I learned forced log) but then very rewarding. Especially S&P at night when my wife was sleeping.
