K3 in the California QSO Party

Rem O.
Here is a video I made last weekend when camping up in the rare Colusa
County to participate in the California QSO Party.  The K3 was at five watts
and the antenna was a Carolina Windom about 50 feet up.  It was a good time
and the K3 performed great.

What was the tennis ball launcher used.  I think you gents called it an
antenna bazooka or similar.  I need to make one of those for putting up
my loop.

Where can I find directions.

Thanks in advance

Google "spud launcher" or "spudgun."

We Silicon Valley types don't use things as inelegant as potatoes or
other vegetables.  Rather, we use the pneumatic tennis ball launcher
developed and sold either assembled or as a kit by this ham.

http://www.antennalaunchers.com/antlaunching.html

When I moved to a redwood forest in CA six years ago, I brought with me
one of the Big Shot  super-slingshots from Sherill Tree Service that had
worked so well for our club with trees around Chicago.  Alas, it was not
nearly enough to get near the tops of these big redwoods, typically
130-170 ft tall.  A fellow NCCC member, Ira, K2RD, brought his tennis
ball launcher over and cleared the top of the tallest tree on my
property by at least ten feet on his first shot.

Re: K3 in the California QSO Party

Larry stowell
To all

I've had this launcher for about 4 years and shot a lot of lines for myself and friends. It is the
best, very accurate (relatively speaking) and if I miss the neighbors roof isn't in danger (arrows
or lead sinkers)

QST magazine had detailed plans for a spudgun a couple years ago ..
about April 2009 I think.  That is the one I built.  Others may be able
to identify the issue more accurately but if they don't I can look it up
if someone needs to know the exact issue for sure.

This is the site folks are searching for:

http://www.antennalaunchers.com/antlaunching.html

They have links there to buy complete units, kits or to buy parts for
building your own.

Can't wait to see the Elecraft PAL-10000 (Pneumatic Antenna Launcher) hihi

In reply to this post by Donehrlich@q.com
Gents, I appreciate all the feedback, as I now have all the necessary
info to decide if I want to build one or purchase.

Thanks, as it will change how I plan to install my loop antenna in the
trees, I will now have a better chance of getting it higher in the air.

Cheers
