K3 knob play

alsopb
Anybody else noticing that there is considerable knob play in the four
shift/width/speed and cmp controls.  The same for the RIT knob.

By knob play, I mean if you grasp the knobs and move them up/down or
side to side, they move that way.  Not expected.

Odd, I never noticed it until not using the K3 for a few weeks and then
starting to use it again.

No, the knobs are not loose. They function just fine.

No flames please.

Brian,

Elecraft has switched to a tighter encoder for both the K3 and the KX1
so that condition is not present on newer K3s.
What you describe is 'normal' for the older K3s.  Yes, they seem to
function just fine even with the shaft which has some sideplay.

All of the encoders mentioned below also have a push in switch (to
select hi-lo cut vs shift-width etc.) As a result, it is normal for
there to be a small amount of additional left/right play in the encoder
knob due to the action of the switch.

Don is incorrect, we did not change anything that effects the push
button encoder play.
