K3 - new release of HRD

Bill-3
Older versions had many lacking features for buttons and sliders, also a
lack of "lighted buttons" indicating when some features were selected.
Any of this been corrected in the new version?

Thanks,

Bill W2BLC K-Line

Ian Kahn, KM4IK
Bill,

The HRD development team is always working on getting these little bugs
ironed out.  There is a new release coming soon that has many improvements
in dealing with the K3.  Please stay tuned...

Re: K3 - new release of HRD

Bill-3
Of course they are always making changes -  it is my understanding that
Beta 6.2 has recently been released.

As you are on the company test team, you are uniquely qualified and
informed as to what changes, specifically, have been made to correct the
deficiencies in HRD/K3 operation (using 5.xx versions)? Changes that
will have me clamoring to purchase the latest version of HRD.

For example: Are there more button assignments available? Same question
for slider controls? Also, in the past, some button selections did not
result in the button "lighting" while others did - do they now all
"light" when selected?

Thanks,

Bill W2BLC K-Line

It appears that a public beta has been released for paid users.  If you
want to know what is in it - beyond the short list on the web site - I
suggest you become a paid user to gain access to the software:

Apparently HRD doesn't have a mail reflector of their own.

Re: K3 - new release of HRD

Rick Ruhl
Well we do but it's peer to peer.

A lot of the button status not working is that the cat commands have no way to poll them.  I'm working with David, Wayne and Eric on these issues...

Here's our list of k3 fixes in the 6.2 public beta

Fixed in next beta: (work around of firmware bugs)
AFX - doesn't do anything.
AGC - Off = it switches to fast not off
Mode + - skips modes, but also skips lsb and usb and data. switches between cw and am only
Mode - - Does the same as mode +
Band + - skips bands when pressed
Band - - skips bands when pressed
Xfil - only selects two filters #2 and #4 skips filter #1 and #3
Freq Entrey - Does not work at all
NB - will turn on, but cant turn it off.
Meter - will not work
NR - Does not work at all.
Notch - only turns off but will not turn it on.
CWT - Turn it on, but will not turn it off.
Fine - Does not work at all
Dual PB - Does not work
Test - does not work.

ALT
ATU
COURSE
VOX
RX ANT

Firmware bugs in the K3
=======================
PF1 - does not work
PF2 - does not work
Data does not work..

If you know of any K3/KX3 issues with HRD 6.1 please grab a copy of the current
Public Beta 2 from the HRD site and test it.  If the issue still exists register at:

http://forums.hrdsoftwarellc.com/forumdisplay.php?169-HRD-6-2-Open-Beta-support

and report it.  Lets get as many things fixed as possible before 6.2 Release is baked.
The squeaky wheel gets the grease!  I suspect HRD does very little testing of the K-line
on their own, they'l only work on what K3/KX3 owners report.

Re: K3 - new release of HRD

k6mkf
Hi Folks,

A cautionary note here.   Some early-adopters of the HRD v6.2 Public Beta
have reported problems after installation: some with rig connectivity and
some with the logbook.   Others have not have these problems.

Set a System Restore point, and backup your logs, DM-780 macros, Rig Control
macros, etc. prior to installing any HRD beta software.   Beta support
releases are not a high priority for HRD Support.

I consider my K-Line and HRD to be my 'production system' and resist
installing beta software or firmware on it.

Be careful out there ...

Not true, Eric has been kind enough to give us both a K3 and a KX3, and yes,
I do 'eat my own dog food', the K3 was used this weekend in the ARRL DX
contest.

Now, again let me make clear, some of the buttons do not have a way to see
if they are on or off in the cat control of the K3, therefore, they won't
light up, which is what Us and Elecraft are working on.

Saying that, I still use the buttons on the radio for what  I need.  Now if
you all are working remote, then that's a pretty big deal and of course,
with time and patience, it will work the best we can get it to.

A few months back, I posted I was having a K3 development week, and only 4
people responded with their issues...  Im sure 95% of the HRD K3 users just
use the Radio control for freq and mode for the HRD Logbook and DM-780.

Willi was a paid user of HRD. 6.2 is nothing but bugs. They call it a public release. They have now released the next Beta release
which is supposed to fix some of the K3 problems. When I asked what they fixed I received absolutely no response. The 6.2 release is
not compatible with LP-Bridge whereas previous versions were. I stopped upgrading at that point. A lot on their bug list has been
there for some time and they seem in no hurry to fix anything.

I think TRX manager is a great product, but it's only rig control if I
remember right..

HRD has RC, Logbook, DM-780, Satellite, Rotor etc.

I like the new release of HRD. Definitely looking forward to the bugs being fixed in the logbook especially and eventually wsjt integration..

Re: K3 - new release of HRD

Rick Ruhl
In reply to this post by Tim Herrick
Tim, this is how misinformation is spread.  We have to fix issues one at a
time and sometimes those fixes will cause other issues.. the nature of
programming.  But to say we are in no hurry is a total falsehood.  Erik,
Mike, and I are working 12-16 hours a day on the product and good code, like
fine wine, takes time.

As for LPBridge....

1. Im not very fond of port splitter programs.  One DCE to one DTE device is
the RS-232 standard

2. F6DEX and N8LP need to modify LP Bridge to support Unicode strings.  They
are still MCSB and Microsoft is totally going to Unincode

Asking us to make 6.2 work with LpBridge is like asking Microsoft to fix
Windows for something that they broke in 8.X with HRD. (and they did).  When
we contacted Microsoft, they said we had to modify our code to match Windows
8.

So the LpBridge guys need a Unicode version to work with HRD 6.

And there is no they, there is US!  Rick, Mike, Tim, Erik, Erin, Jon, V,
Gordy, etc etc

As for your question in ticket number 859567, all support for 6.2 is being
done in the forum and I see no posts in there..  I know there was one on the
yahoo group, but that is not official HRD support.

So the answer is, look at some of my posts in this thread from earlier and
you'll see the fixes...

Willi was a paid user of HRD. 6.2 is nothing but bugs. They call it a public
release. They have now released the next Beta release which is supposed to
fix some of the K3 problems. When I asked what they fixed I received
absolutely no response. The 6.2 release is not compatible with LP-Bridge
whereas previous versions were. I stopped upgrading at that point. A lot on
their bug list has been there for some time and they seem in no hurry to fix
anything.

It appears that a public beta has been released for paid users.  If you want
to know what is in it - beyond the short list on the web site - I suggest
you become a paid user to gain access to the software:

Last post on the subject, then you guys need to go back to talking about the
radios <grin>

JT65, packet etc will be post 6.2.  Just not enough man hours to do the bug
fixes for 6.2 and add JT modes..

Now back to your Elecraft radio discussion...  My compile is done (7 minutes
for a full build of HRD, 1.4 million lines of code)

I like the new release of HRD. Definitely looking forward to the bugs being
fixed in the logbook especially and eventually wsjt integration..

Re: K3 - new release of HRD

Bill-3
Thank you for all who posted and those that sent me emails. As I am only
interested in rig control (physical limitations at the desk) I have
written HRD off as far too complex (logging, rotor control, etc.) and
not able to fully control the K3. I will continue using the old 5.xx
version until I have had time to review the other offerings mentioned.

Actually, I believe the yet to be released small external control panel
for the K3 may be just the ticket. In the interim, I will chase the mouse.

Re: K3 - new release of HRD

AD0ES
In reply to this post by Bill-3
I stand corrected, thats very good to know!
I really enjoy the HRD suite.  As you suggest about all I use RigControl for is to provide DM-780 access to the K3.
I use logbook on a laptop via the local LAN, very convenient. Rotator sends bearing info to the StationMaster,
allowing control of virtual dipole ant arrays.  I didn't see your call for development week...  Anything I can
do in the future let me know.
