K3 on 160 Meters

k0wa@swbell.net

What a wonderful radio.  Of course, I am preaching to the choir here (well most of you anyway).  The K3 performed well during this weekend's 160 meter contest with a very simple Inverted-L wire antenna with 20 radials.  Worked 6 countries and 76 Mults with 775 Qs in 11 hours.  Missed VI - PR - NL and NWT.  The radio could pull out the weak stations.  Selectivity excellent.  Just a happy experience all the way around.  Highlight....ON4UN called me when I was running.  Surprised me so much I asked for his call twice.  He was probably laughing is a** off.  Surprised me!

Had one issue....the K3 did not go back to receive one time.  Deaf radio.  Hit the Xmit again and it came back alive.  Did not have that issue again.  I wonder what that was?

The other issue is that I hit a key on N1MM and the K3 jumped in frequency and the RIT was way off.  Something I did with the control program.  It is called Fat Fingers.

Great Radio - PERIOD!

There have been a few reports of this in the last few weeks, though I think all previous incidences were using HRD. I think there can be a conflict between CAT PTT control and hardware PTT control. You need to set the PTT menu option to OFF OFF. Alternatively you need to make sure that the logger is not using both CAT and hardware PTT.
