I use my K3 mostly for SSB rag chew, for that reason I use the ANF
(automatic notch filter) often. The ANF does eliminate interfering hetrodynes and carriers very well, however, it introduces a garbling effect to the SSB received audio. It is tolerable, but surely causes a noticeable and disappointing receive audio quality reduction. I have other rigs with ANF and even a couple of old ANF boxes - all of which do a good job eliminating the interfering signals - generally as well as the K3's ANF. However, only the K3 introduces artifacts or garbling to the receive audio. I have been told by Elecraft, "They (other manufacturers) are no doubt using a different algorithm. Lyle has said he will look into this when he gets a chance." Not being able to leave the ANF engaged all of the time, as I do with other rigs, has reduced the pleasure of using my K3. In the interim of Lyle looking into this, has anyone found settings that workaround this problem? This has been mentioned in the past.
My k3 purchased in November 2010 did not have this problem. It did show up later after SW updates. Search the archives and you may find a solution. I thought this was on the to be looked at list by Elecraft. 73 KD8NNU Don Sent from my HTC on the Now Network from Sprint! ----- Reply message ----- From: "Bill" <[hidden email]> Date: Sat, Oct 13, 2012 11:24 am Subject: [Elecraft] K3 - receive audio when using the ANF To: <[hidden email]> I use my K3 mostly for SSB rag chew, for that reason I use the ANF (automatic notch filter) often. Thanks for the reply - I'll look at using an older version of firmware.
Anything that would relieve it will be welcome. -- IN GOD I TRUST (but, NOT a single politician) ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

OK - I'll shut up now. I received a detailed email on doing reflector
searches and, as a result, have found a workaround that seems to fill the bill for me. Thanks for taking the time to get me up and running - you know who you are - the email was greatly appreciated and very helpful.
