Good to their word, the new K3 front panel arrived and I installed it
(took me about three hours - some parts and board removal/replacement from the original front panel required). Unfortunately, there was no joy. The rig behaved exactly as before. Called support back and again did a little testing with them on the line. This time they said to return the rig. So, $66 later at the UPS store - the K3 is on its way to California. Contact with support has been great - with very timely return calls and knowledgeable staff. Much better than I have ever experienced with any other manufacturer. These folks really do want to keep the customer happy. It will be interesting to find what the problem is, as the K3 had performed flawlessly for five months from the time I assembled it. Several people have contacted my off list asking why so expensive for
shipping? Easy - - - insurance! The shipping companies make a huge profit off their insurance coverage. That said, there is no way I would ship my K3 across town without insurance, let alone to California. I like my K3 and do not want something to happen to it. The shipping insurance holds the shipping company (in this case UPS) accountable. The reason it's costing you so much to ship your K3 is not insurance,
but where you're taking it be be shipped. UPS isn't making that money, whomever owns the "UPS store" you're taking it to is. Don't ever use a UPS "store" if you have a choice. Take it directly to a UPS owned customer center or a FedEx or FedEx Kinkos. It shouldn't cost more than $30-$35 to ship your K3 to California fully insured for its value (and more!). If you take it to a UPS "store" rather than an actual UPS or FedEx owned customer counter, then you're not only allowing yourself to get shafted, but you're helping them do it. 73, Scott, N9AA On 7/22/12 9:06 PM, Bill wrote: > Several people have contacted my off list asking why so expensive for > shipping? Gee - thanks for all the great advice on not getting ripped off on
shipping. Now try this: distance to the real UPS divided by the cost of gasoline. Oh, I know - you never thought of that? Now to explain so that you will understand: It would take more time and gasoline to go to the real UPS than the cost savings is worth. Sorry I bothered to post anything at all - in the future I will refrain from same. Too many folks with useless comments. Bill:
You don't understand if you setup an account with UPS no cost, anyone can I did and I live in the country also. It's easy you weigh measure and insure the package then pay charge on your account however you want to pay them. Then you call and they do the pickup what easier than that? 73, Fred/N0AZZ -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Bill Sent: Monday, July 23, 2012 5:16 AM To: [hidden email] Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3 - regarding support (update) Gee - thanks for all the great advice on not getting ripped off on shipping. Bill,
As annoying as some of the comments may have seemed to you I think everyone was just trying to be helpful. 73, Rick K6LE On 7/23/2012, at 3:16 , Bill <[hidden email]> wrote: > Gee - thanks for all the great advice on not getting ripped off on > shipping.
