K3 roger beep when mic keyed with XMIT?

k5oai
I got frustrated with my inability to get the vox setup correctly,
my problem getting the gain/antivox set correctly, NOT a k3 problem!
So I started keying my mic(s) with the XMIT button.
Mic's are a D-104 and a CM-500, neither one has it's own keying line.

After a few minutes with a group I chat with every day,
I was ask where I got the "Roger Beep" for my rig.
I ask what's that, and was told it was a thing that CB'ers often added,
that causes a beep sound at the end of their transmissions.

(since I hear a tone here in the shack,
when I push the XMIT key as well as when I unkey,
I don't know if it goes out on the air both times or not?)

I found the source of this annoyance to be the SW TONE being set to ON.
My question is, how do I keep the beeps,
for when I push the other buttons on the face of the K3,
but not get the added 'feature' of the "CBer's Roger Beep"
(also known as a courtesy tone, I'm told), every time I key the mic.

This might help: here's a PTT button you can build from parts at Radio Shack.
Use the PTT RCA jack instead of the 15-pin accessory connector; I just forgot.

You could always try setting the noise gate to the point where the beeps are
not heard.
