There are four memories, actuated by the large M1-M4 buttons which are
arranged in a circle around the REC button in the URH corner. TAP to send,
HOLD to repeat. Tap REC followed by an Mx button to record at whatever speed
is currently set for the keyer. They play at whatever speed is current at
playback time. Tap a key or the paddle to abort a message. CW memories are
in the base unit. If you have the optional DVK, the same buttons work for
voice messages. If you use a computer and its message sending facilities,
then you may not need the message memories so you can assign them to menu
functions, up to four TAP functions and up to four HOLD functions. You can
have some Mx buttons assigned to messages and others assigned to menu
functions but both the TAP and HOLD functions of any one button must be
assigned to the same type of function, either message send/repeat or two
programmable functions. The first time you set up a button to be a menu
function, that function gets assigned to both TAP and HOLD. Later, you can
redefine the TAP and HOLD functions individually.
These same buttons also serve as frequency/mode/filter memories on a
per-band basis. V->M followed by an Mx button saves a setup; M->V followed
by an Mx button recalls a setup. This capability always exists for all four
Mx buttons, regardless of whether they are being used as message memories or
programmed function keys. I will usually have two of them set up for my
favorite CW and SSB frequencies on each band and the other two reserved for
menu functions. Menu functions of an Mx button are the same on all bands.
I think this functionality is very slick.
