It looks like the K3 should eventually be able to support satellite
operation. With the fully-independent sub-receiver and powerful DSP
capability, it's got perfect hardware for the application. The main
software features required are:
- Simultaneous transmit/receive using the transverter ports.
- Tracking of the VFOs in the main and sub receivers. The tracking
needs to be selectable in the same or reverse direction to accomodate
satellites with inverting down-converters (the most common type).
- Ability to transmit outside the ham bands when using converters.
There are other "nice to have" features like frequency display offset
(to show the converted frequency), automatic-frequency control of either
RX or TX (tracking received signal), and support of satellite digital
modulation formats.
