K3 settings

Mike K5NU
Fellow Elecrafters,

I am also very interested in any assist with setting up the K3 for optimum performance.  I spent a bit of time in the CQWW this last weekend with the K3 and a number of other radios to compare and to try to tweak the K3.  I have not been as successful as I would like.  Of course, my primary interest is dxing on 80m, so a quiet receiver is not realistic especially here on the Gulf coast.  However, if anyone is willing to share their tweaks/settings for optimising the rx performance on the K3, it would be greatly appreciated by me, and I am sure, by at least a few others using their K3.

Thanks and 73,  Mike K5NU

Granted that the K3 is a very flexible radio, but I believe that all
manufacturers design their radios to give good performance right out of the
box.

I think that optional settings are a matter of personal preference,
so what works for you may not work for me.

I know many operators who tweak all the available settings just because
they can, and end up sounding worse than when they started.
This applies to both receiver and transmitter.

My suggestion (after many years on the air, and many rigs on the table):
Get to know the un-tweaked radio first, then try the ones you feel you
must, until you're satisfied, but be careful!
