The closest thing I could find to the size of the new
K3 is the Icom 735. This was a compact transceiver
that I used for 7 years in the 80's. It was easy to
toss in the mobile, and worked real well at home. Now
K3 comes along with (hopefully) Orion class
performance in this compact package. Well it does not
have two over sized knobs like Orion, and you cannot
pack your lunch and pair of shoes inside, but I would
not want an Orion in the mobile either. I guess the
question is whether the contest crowd will want to
stay up all night with a radio this small physically.
I like the fact that it will fit on the upper shelf of
my computer hutch.
BTW the K3 is also 20% lighter than the old IC735,
which was quite the DXpeditioner's choice in it's time.
