We were at the plumbing supply today and picked up a 2 inch PVC 90 degree elbow
coupler. A disc was cut from some no skid shelf liner. This and the PVC elbow was placed over the top speaker, thus deflecting the sound toward the operators ears. The result was a noticable improvement in the sound output detected. Next is to spray the coupler Rust-oleum Semi-flat Black enamel to more match the K3. May even detail more with a grill cloth later. Nice simple sound improvement out of the stock speaker. 73, Mike, AC5P ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
Mike,
That is creative and very nice, but a pair of high efficiency (unamplified) speakers will beat that "all hollow" while allowing the use of AFX. I use a pair of old RS Optimus speakers that I picked up at a thrift shop for a bargain - they make the K3 sound sweet - YMMV. IMHO, the internal speaker "sucks", and is to be used only when there are no other alternatives. 73, Don W3FPR On 3/17/2011 10:50 PM, [hidden email] wrote: > We were at the plumbing supply today and picked up a 2 inch PVC 90 degree elbow > coupler. > > A disc was cut from some no skid shelf liner. External speakers are better, but a simple reflector makes a big difference:
I use a small cardboard box sitting just to the rear of the loudspeaker aperture as a reflective surface. I'd be interested in an efficient forward facing speaker in a matching
cabinet, say, P3 size. Or just a matching cabinet; I guess many of us could do the rest ! Same for me. I've inquired about it with the Elecraft folks, but haven't received a reply yet. It would make a nice addition.
